What’s the best brand of bourbon to use in the following meatball appetizer recipe?
Jean K asked:
Here’s a recipe I want to make for Christmas, but not sure what brand bourbon to use.
2 cups barbecue sauce
1 1/2 cups bourbon
1 cup honey
1 cup prepared mustard
1/8 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 (32-ounce) package frozen cooked Italian-style meatballs, thawed
Mike L….so you think liquid should be increased??

Jimmy! Jimmy Beam. You can cook and get hammered at the same time.
charles, JD is whiskey, not bourbon

With that many other strong flavors, you would never be able to tell the difference. Whatever is cheap.

Woodfords… It has a very nice spicey aftertaste to it. btw, Jack is a sour mash, not a true bourbon

Some would argue with me but the fine qualities of a premium bourbon would not be discernible to the palate in a recipe and would do little to improve the dish over the least expensive bourbon. However , while you’re cookin, you may want to down a W.L. Weller’s 12 YO Mahattan. Weller’s is a ‘wheated’ (as opposed to ‘ryed’) bourbon. It is very good indeed and much better than the “no age on bottle’ Makers Mark (also a wheated bourbon) that many people actually believe is a good.

Fred S – AM, etc. is right. Jack Daniels is the best bourbon around. Drink it, don’t lose it in this recipe. Jim Beam or one of the cheaper ones. They say it should be something you’d drink about using wine and all that in cooking. True. But it needn’t be the very BEST thing you’d drink, either.

Fred has it first
the Worcestershire will cover any alcohol and the cooking will evaporate it ..for cooking use what you LIKE to drink..
I have a problem with 2 lbs of meat balls and just 1 3/4 quarts (5 1/2 cups) of total sauce..

good liquor is for drinking. Just get something cheap to cook with.
